Kazakhstan: The influence of the Organization of Turkey is growing

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Gomert Tokayev, considered that the influence of the “Organization of Turkish States” (formerly the Turkish Council) and its status in the international arena are increasing year after year.

This came in a speech delivered by Tokayev on Friday at the summit of the Organization of the Turkish States, which launched on the “Island of Democracy and Freedoms” off Istanbul, in the Sea of ​​Marmara.

The President of Kazakhstan called for taking advantage of the geopolitical situation of the Turkish world, saying: “This is very important for all of us.”

He stressed the need for OIC countries to cooperate in combating climate change, especially after taking an international dimension, stressing their countries’ readiness for projects related to smart cities, green technologies, and digitization.

The historic summit in Istanbul was attended by Presidents of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Kazakhstan’s Kasim Gummert Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan Sadr Jabarov, and Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It is also attended by Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov for the first time as an observer member state, and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban (observer member).

Today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the transformation of the “Turkish Council”, which includes the Turkic-speaking countries, into the Organization of Turkish States.

Turkey will receive the organization’s rotating presidency from Azerbaijan during the summit, which will discuss issues related to the further development of cooperation with brotherly and friendly countries in all fields.

The “Turkish Council” was established under its previous name on October 3, 2009, and includes Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Hungary as observers.

The Organization of Turkish States, with its new name (based in Istanbul), aims to develop cooperation between Turkic-speaking countries in many areas, including education and trade.
