Heathrow loses 2.9 billion pounds in the first half

Heathrow Airport announced that its cumulative losses from the Corona pandemic amounted to 2.9 billion pounds ($ 3.8 billion) during the first half of this year.

The airport administration said in a statement on Monday that less than four million passengers traveled through the airport in the first half of this year, a figure equivalent to the number of passengers in just 18 days in 2019.

The airport warned that the number of passengers may be lower this year than it was in 2020, with the continued restrictions imposed in many economies due to the pandemic, specifically the Indian Coronavirus “Delta”.

In 2020, the airport used about 22.1 million passengers, more than half of them in January and February 2020 before the virus crisis led to a collapse in demand.

The airport management described recent changes to quarantine and testing requirements for people arriving in the UK as “encouraging”.

But she warned that the rules were “hampering the UK’s economic recovery”.

The British government announced last month to ease some restrictions associated with travelers through the airport.

The airport’s chief executive, John Holland Kaye, said: “The UK is currently emerging from the worst effects of the health pandemic.
