The US embassy in Iraq announced on Tuesday that its air defenses in the embassy building in the capital, Baghdad, had confronted an “air threat” targeting it, without clarifying what it was.
And it stated in a statement that “early Tuesday, the defense system was activated inside the compound of the American embassy in Baghdad, and it eliminated the air threat.”

The statement did not clarify the nature of this threat, but an Iraqi security source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said it was “most likely a booby-trapped drone.”
“We are working with our Iraqi partners on the investigation, and we will continue to take all appropriate and necessary measures to protect the safety of our staff and facilities,” the embassy said in its statement.
No armed party has claimed responsibility for this attack until (06:50 GMT).
But factions close to Iran, including the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades, had threatened to target the locations of US forces in Iraq if Washington did not end its military presence in the country.

The Green Zone, which includes the US embassy, as well as the Iraqi military bases that host US forces, are attacked by Katyusha rockets or booby-trapped drones.
Washington usually accuses Iraqi armed factions linked to Iran of being behind the attacks targeting its embassy and military bases where its soldiers are deployed in Iraq.
