On Sunday, a Palestinian human rights body said that the director of its office in the south of the West Bank was transferred to an Israeli hospital, hours after the occupation arrested him, due to his “poor health.”

The Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights (non-governmental) stated in a statement that lawyer Farid al-Atrash, director of its office in the southern West Bank, was transferred to Hadassah Hospital (Israeli) due to his poor health.
The statement stated that “the Israeli occupation forces arrested Lawyer Al-Atrash on Saturday at the Container Military Checkpoint (east of Jerusalem).”
The commission demanded the occupation authorities release him immediately, and held them responsible for his health, according to the same statement.
Farid al-Atrash is a lawyer and human rights activist who was previously arrested for his peaceful activism against the occupation, according to the Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights.

Israel holds about 5,300 Palestinians in its prisons, including 40 female prisoners, 250 children, and about 520 administrative detainees, according to official Palestinian data.
