Kim said that North Korea will work to strengthen its relations with Beijing in the coming period.

“Through the close cooperation between the Workers’ Party of Korea and the Chinese Communist Party, we will raise the two countries’ relations to a strategic point that meets the aspirations of the two peoples and keeps pace with current developments,” he added.

On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Fenbin said in a statement that Beijing could send aid to North Korea.

He stressed that the two countries have a long tradition of helping each other when facing difficulties.

He said that China will seriously study the possibility of providing assistance to North Korea if necessary.
