On Thursday, a civilian was killed by a landmine explosion in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate in the northern region of Iraq.

The Sulaymaniyah Police Directorate said in a statement, “A person was killed, and 100 agricultural dunams (a dunam equivalent to a thousand square meters) were set on fire as a result of a landmine explosion.”

The statement indicated that “a large-scale fire broke out in the borders of the village of (Ga Brao) in Mawt District, Sulaymaniyah Governorate, as a result of a landmine explosion against a civilian.”

And last year, Iraq announced the burning of more than 100,000 acres of agricultural crops, some of them as a result of a short circuit and the other by an active act.

Usually, Iraqi farmers accuse ISIS militants of setting fire to wheat and barley fields during the harvest period to prevent the country from reaching the stage of self-sufficiency in agricultural crops.
