On Sunday, the Sudanese authorities announced that they had received 14 headquarters from the peacekeeping mission in Darfur, “UNAMID”, whose mandate expired at the end of 2020.
This came during a meeting of the Governor of the Darfur region, Arko Minawi Minawi, with the “work team charged with expediting the exit procedures of the United Nations Hybrid Mission in Darfur,” according to the Sudanese News Agency.

Three years ago, UNAMID forces began handing over their headquarters and camps in the states of Darfur, against the background of reducing their forces in the region.
With the end of its mandate on December 31, it hastened to hand over its headquarters in Darfur.
The head of the UNAMID exit procedures team, Brigadier General Mohamed Abkar, said that his team supervised the receipt of 14 sites in Darfur states, without details of the period for delivery or the total number of sites remaining.
Minawi pointed out that “there are those who incite citizens to loot the mission’s headquarters (he did not name them), which requires taking measures to miss the opportunity.”

According to the latest statistics published by UNAMID on its website, the mission is spread across 35 locations throughout the five states of Darfur.
