36 migrants rescued in northwest Turkey, returned by Greece

Turkish coast guard crews rescued 36 irregular migrants who were forced by Greek forces to return to Turkish territorial waters off the coast of Balıkesir state in the northwest of the country.

The Coast Guard Command said in a statement on Wednesday that its teams headed to the coast of Ayvalik region after receiving a report about the presence of a group of migrants on a rubber boat.

It explained that the teams rescued 36 migrants after the Greek forces forced them to return to Turkish territorial waters.

It added that the migrants were taken to the command center in the area.
