Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that the government in the country is working “with all its might to make Turkey an emerald green country, and to bequeath to future generations the most beautiful country in all aspects.”

This came in a video speech published today, which is National Tree Planting Day in Turkey, hoping that November 11 will be a beneficial day for Turkey, the Turkish nation and the environment.

He explained, “We say, even if you know that the end of the world will come tomorrow, plant the seedlings you have in the ground, we are the children of this civilization.”

He continued, “We do not see our forests as a legacy from our ancestors only, but as a trust for our future generations, and in order to spread this understanding in our society, especially among the young generations, we have declared November 11 of each year as a national day.”

Erdogan explained, “Tree Planting Day is to make Turkey an emerald green country, and to ensure the future of our future generations, we are working with all our might to leave the best country for future generations in all aspects.”

President Erdogan stressed that with the tree planting campaign launched under the slogan “Breathing for the Future,” More than 7 billion seedlings have been planted in the soil and the forest area has increased by 12 percent to reach 23.4 million hectares.

He continued, “Today we rank first in Europe and fourth in the world in afforestation efforts, and last year, on the occasion of the centenary of the founding of our republic, we established republican forests in 81 states under the slogan of breathing for the republic.”

He added, “This year, the subject of our plan is related to what has been happening in Palestine for more than a year, and we have identified the seedlings that we will plant today in the name of a breath for the future, a breath for humanity, to draw attention once again to the genocide and the cries of the oppressed from all over the world.”

He added that this “will be a hope against all the oppression, massacres, genocide and inhuman attacks that darken the horizons of humanity, and our seedlings will remain alive in the memory of those who lost their lives in all innocent parts of the world, especially our brothers who were martyred in Gaza.”

He concluded by saying, “I invite you, our dear citizens, to plant seedlings in their planting points throughout our country. I congratulate you on November 11, National Afforestation Day.”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared the National Afforestation Day in 2019, and Turkey celebrates this day every year, with Turkish institutions and events participating in it.
