UN Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Iraq on Thursday to participate in the 34th Arab League Summit, scheduled for next Saturday at the leaders’ level.

The office of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stated in a statement that “Guterres will arrive in the capital, Baghdad, to participate in the 34th Arab League Summit, which will be held the day after tomorrow, Saturday.”

Earlier Thursday, Baghdad hosted a preparatory meeting of Arab foreign ministers in preparation for the leaders’ summit on Saturday.

The ministers approved the summit’s agenda, foremost among which are the Palestinian issue, which includes five issues and five initiatives.

This year’s summit is being held under the slogan “Dialogue, Solidarity, and Development,” amidst a number of pressing Arab issues, most notably the ongoing Israeli war of extermination in the Gaza Strip, which has now reached its nineteenth month, along with other regional crises, including Syria and Sudan.
