Minister Bayraktar announced the electricity production and consumption data in July and stated that the installed electricity capacity in Turkey reached 112,999 megawatt-hours (MWh) as of the end of July and said: “In the same period, the share of solar energy installed in the total installed capacity broke a record in terms of percentage, reaching 15.6 percent.”

Bayraktar stressed that the total electricity production from local sources peaked at 19.9 billion kilowatt-hours in July and said: “Electricity production reached 34.6 billion kilowatt-hours and consumption reached 34.5 billion kilowatt-hours, the highest monthly value ever. We reached record levels in electricity consumption and electricity production in July. We met 57 percent of the electricity demand that peaked on the hottest days of the year from local and renewable sources.” Stressing that last month was recorded as the hottest July in the past 53 years, the Minister made the following statements:

“Therefore, the intensive use of air conditioning systems in particular has pushed electricity consumption and natural production to record levels. Let us not forget that it is possible to reduce energy consumption without negatively affecting production, service provided and social welfare through energy efficiency applications.”
