The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) released its “Prospects 2050” report, stating that Turkey could become a regional energy powerhouse. Turkey is making significant moves in the energy market.

It is increasing its economic power and significantly reducing its dependence on foreign energy. Important details regarding this situation are provided in the GECF’s “Prospects 2050” report.

According to the report, global gas production is expected to reach 5 trillion and 317 billion cubic meters by 2050.

Across Europe, production is expected to decline by 119 billion cubic meters by that date, and it was emphasized that Turkey will be a crucial player in natural gas production in this process.

With the commissioning of the Sakarya gas field, annual natural gas production increased from 400 million cubic meters to 1 billion and 300 million cubic meters, and in 2024, this figure will reach 2 billion and 260 million cubic meters.

The report stated that with new developments and discoveries in the Sakarya gas field, Turkey’s annual natural gas production could reach 17 billion cubic meters by 2050.

This significant increase was considered a crucial step for Turkey to reduce energy imports and achieve energy independence.

Turkey is also moving not only to produce its own gas but also to become an energy hub, a major transit point between Europe, the Middle East, and Russia, with pipelines and LNG facilities.
