The Anti-Disinformation Center of the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Department denied allegations that four people are under quarantine in the capital Ankara on suspicion of being infected with monkeypox.

This came in a statement issued by the center on Thursday in response to the allegations published in the media and circulated on social media.

The statement said: “There are no patients in quarantine on suspicion of being infected with monkeypox (Empox) in any health facility in Ankara.”

It stressed that the Ministry of Health provides the necessary information with complete transparency, calling for not paying attention to baseless allegations aimed at misleading public opinion.

On August 14, the World Health Organization declared monkeypox a “public health emergency of international concern.”

Monkeypox is mostly transmitted through sexual contact and skin-to-skin contact, as well as sharing bedding, towels, and clothing.

Symptoms of the virus include a rash, malaise, fever, swollen lymph nodes, chills, headache, and muscle pain.
