The first Turkish Airlines plane landed at Damascus International Airport on Thursday, coming from Turkey after a hiatus of about 13 years.
The Boeing 777 took off from Istanbul Airport on Thursday morning after resuming flights between Istanbul and Damascus.
Turkish Airlines had suspended its flights to Syria on April 1, 2012 due to internal unrest caused by the Assad regime.
Last week, Turkish Airlines announced the resumption of flights to the Syrian capital, Damascus, on January 23.
Also, in a post on the “X” platform, the General Manager of Turkish Airlines, Bilal Ekşi, said that the company will organize 3 flights per week to Damascus after a hiatus of years.
On December 8, 2024, the Syrian factions extended their control over the capital, Damascus, after other cities, thus ending 61 years of the bloody Baath Party regime, and 53 years of the rule of the Assad family.
The next day, the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed al-Sharaa, announced that Mohammed al-Bashir had been assigned to form a government to manage a transitional period.
