Delegations from the United States and Russia met on Thursday for their second round of talks in Istanbul to enhance the effectiveness of bilateral missions.
The US delegation reportedly arrived at the Russian Consulate General in Istanbul at 9:45 a.m. (GMT+3) on Thursday morning.
The Moscow delegation is headed by Alexander Darchev, Russian Ambassador to Washington, while the US delegation is headed by Sonata Coulter, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Russian and Central European Affairs.
On Tuesday, US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said that the second meeting between the US and Russian delegations in Istanbul on April 10 “is not related to Ukrainian security.”
In a press conference at the US State Department, Bruce confirmed that the US and Russian delegations will meet in Istanbul, where they “are meeting for the second time to attempt to make progress in enhancing the stability and effectiveness of bilateral missions.”
On February 18, the first meeting between delegations from the two countries took place in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, as part of efforts to restore bilateral relations and stop the war in Ukraine.
The two delegations held their first meeting in Istanbul on February 27 at the US Consulate General in Istanbul, which lasted approximately six and a half hours.
