Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated, “Our venture capital investment funds will now be able to invest in venture companies established abroad and with more than half of their investments in Turkey.”

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek made an assessment regarding the new regulations to be made in the field of venture capital.

Şimşek also stated that some changes will be made to the Venture Capital Investment Fund legislation and said that they have implemented the decisions taken within the scope of the Investment Environment Improvement Coordination Board Action Plan in order to facilitate foreign investors’ investments in Turkey and develop cooperation with them.

Şimşek said regarding the regulation to be issued, “Our venture capital investment funds will now be able to invest in venture capital companies established abroad and with more than half of their investments in Turkey. We are paving the way for investments with contracts that grant the right to become a partner in a venture capital company that has not yet been established in the future.”

Şimşek emphasized that they will bring a new financing tool to the capital markets, and said: “With the change we will make, we expect more foreign resources to enter the institutional ecosystem of our country.”

Şimşek added that instead of direct investment, they will allow investment diversification by distributing risks through a venture capital investment fund.

Şimşek stated that they will pave the way for investment in venture capital companies that have previously received investments and closed their investment rounds, and said: “Another advantage of this regulation is that thanks to the “comprehensive fund” structure, the process of establishing new funds will be significantly shortened.”
