Minimum Wage Talks Begin in Turkey

The Minimum Wage Determination Committee, composed of workers, employers and government representatives, will hold its first meeting tomorrow within the scope of the work to determine the minimum wage that will be effective in 2025, which directly affects approximately 7 million employees and indirectly affects the entire society.

In the meeting to be held tomorrow at 16.00, hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the employers’ side will be represented by the Confederation of Turkish Employers’ Unions (TISK) and the workers’ side will be represented by TÜRK-IŞ, which is the union with the largest number of members.

The current minimum wage is 17 thousand 2 liras net and is currently applied with a total of 20 thousand 2 liras 50 kuruş per month for the worker, and a net of 17 thousand 2 liras 12 kuruş when deductions are reduced.

The total cost of the minimum wage for the employer is 23,502 liras and 94 kuruş per worker, of which 20,002 liras and 50 cents is the total minimum wage, 3,100 liras and 39 cents is the social security premium, and 400 liras and 5 cents is the unemployment insurance fund for employers.

The increase in the minimum wage has an increasing impact on all wages, especially wages in workplaces where collective bargaining agreements are implemented.

In addition to its direct impact on employees who earn their living from this wage, the minimum wage also concerns most of society because it is accepted as a standard in many systems in legal legislation.

It affects many items including unemployment benefits, severance pay, social security system premiums, military service and maternity debts, optional insurance premiums, training fees and reporting fees for minimum wage earners.
