
The Istanbul Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against IMM Chairman Ekrem İmamoğlu and 99 suspects on charges of being the head of a criminal organization, extortion, bribery, fraudulent misappropriation of personal data, and tender fraud.
Seven suspects, including İmamoğlu, IMM Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat, and Şişli Mayor Emre Şahan, are also under investigation for the crime of “aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization.”
They were arrested in an operation conducted by the Istanbul Police Department’s Financial Crimes and Counterterrorism Directorate based on completed detention warrants within the scope of the investigation.
The suspects, who were taken from the Istanbul Police Department’s Vatan Campus in 14 minibuses, were transported to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after undergoing a health check at the annex building of the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine.
Meanwhile, it was reported that Ekrem İmamoğlu was transported to court in a separate vehicle, while 87 suspects were detained as part of the corruption investigation. It was determined that six suspects were fugitives and seven were abroad.
It was also reported that four of the seven suspects in the investigation into the crime of aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization, including İmamoğlu, were detained.
