Istanbul: New Arrests Over Kartalkaya Hotel Disaster

The head of the inspection company was arrested in connection with the fire in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Resort, which claimed the lives of 78 people in Istanbul. The Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Ali A., the head of the FQC company.

Within the scope of the investigation into the fire that broke out in the hotel on January 21, the procedures for the suspect who was arrested in Istanbul and transferred to Bolu are still ongoing at the Regional Gendarmerie Command.

In his statement to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the owner of the Grand Kartal Hotel claimed: “We have a contract with the FQC company for inspection every year, and this company comes every two years at the latest and inspects the hotel in terms of fire, security, cleanliness and all aspects.”

Also within the scope of the investigation, 19 suspects were arrested, including Bolu Deputy Mayor Sedat Gülener and Deputy Fire Chief Kenan Coşkun.

In addition to the owner of the Grand Kartal Hotel, Halit Ergül, the company’s general manager, Emir Aras, the hotel manager, Zeki Yilmaz, and the general manager of the Gazelle Hotel, Ahmet Demir, 7 of them were released, and 6 of them had been released under judicial supervision.
