Istanbul Airport ranked 1st in Europe of air cargo volume

Istanbul International Airport ranked first in Europe in terms of air cargo density in 2024.

The airport operator İGA said in a statement on Tuesday that according to the 2024 annual air traffic report issued by the Airports Council International, Istanbul Airport ranked first in terms of air cargo volume in Europe.

The statement added that the volume of cargo shipped during the past year amounted to 1.97 million tons, which represents an increase of 39.6 percent compared to 2023.

On October 29, 2018, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inaugurated the first phase of Istanbul Airport, which was built on an area of ​​76.5 million square meters.

The construction of the other phases of the airport is scheduled to be completed during the current year 2025, so that its capacity will reach 200 million passengers annually after the completion of all its phases.
