Istanbul International Airport has broken a new record in the average number of daily flights, with an average of 1,359 flights during the period between November 4 and 10.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said that with this performance, Istanbul Airport has outperformed its counterparts in European capitals.
He added that this data came based on the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) report on air navigation in Europe during the mentioned period.
He explained that Istanbul International Airport was the busiest among European airports throughout the past week.
He stated that Istanbul Airport broke a new record with this average rate of daily flights, outperforming prominent international airports such as London, Amsterdam and Paris.
On October 29, 2018, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the first phase of Istanbul Airport, which was built on an area of 76.5 million square meters.
The other phases of the airport are scheduled to be completed by 2025, with a capacity of 200 million passengers per year after all phases are completed.
