Tourists coming to Çıldır Lake between Kars and Ardahan provinces have the opportunity to enjoy “ice safaris” on horse-drawn sleds.
The frozen Çıldır Lake, located in the far east of Turkey, is covered with a thick layer of ice during the winter.
With temperatures dropping to minus 15 degrees, a part of Çıldır Lake near the Arpaçay district of Kars province has frozen.
The area is easily accessible with the start of the new season of the tourist Orient Express on December 23.
Ali Can Mert, who came from Britain, said that he found the lake very beautiful.
Mert said that walking on the frozen lake was a different experience, and that he would skate and tell his friends in London about this place.
For his part, sled driver Doral Dashdemir said that he has been practicing this profession on the surface of the lake for about 10 years.
“We organize wonderful tours on the ice-covered Lake Çıldır and practice Eskimo-style fishing, and we welcome local and foreign tourists,” he added.
