The Turkish “Göbekli Tepe” exhibition in the Italian capital Rome is receiving great interest, as it has attracted more than 1.2 million visitors since its opening in late October.
The exhibition promotes the archaeological site of “Göbekli Tepe” located in the southeastern Turkish province of Şanlıurfa, which dates back 12,000 years.
In a post on the “X” platform on Saturday, Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said that the exhibition was opened at the famous historic “Colosseum” gate in Rome on October 24.
He added that the exhibition, which was opened under the slogan “Göbekli Tepe: Secrets of a Sacred Place”, has been visited by more than 1,242,000 visitors so far.
He expressed his pride in the great global interest in Turkey’s historical landmarks.
The exhibition will continue until March 2025.
The Göbekli Tepe site is one of the oldest places of worship on Earth, dating back 12,000 years. It was discovered in 1963 by researchers from the Universities of Istanbul and Chicago, USA, and excavation and research work continued for about 54 years.
In 1995, many artifacts were discovered in the area, including T-shaped stone obelisks dating back to the Neolithic era, measuring between 3 and 6 meters in length and weighing between 40 and 60 tons, with drawings, animal figures and human statues on them.
In 2018, the Göbekli Tepe Tepe area was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and continues to be the subject of many books, films, documentaries, series and animated films.
