Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached a critical point, according to a statement from the Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate on Monday.

According to the statement, Erdoğan informed Starmer that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached a critical point and that humanity must do more than raise its voices about what is happening.

The Turkish president also affirmed that his country continues to send humanitarian aid to Gaza and expressed his support for the efforts of mediators to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

Erdoğan stressed the importance of taking steps to pressure Israel to cease fire and achieve a two-state solution. The Turkish president praised the British prime minister’s statements regarding the recognition of the State of Palestine. Erdoğan and Starmer also discussed bilateral relations and regional and international developments.

Last Tuesday, the British prime minister said in a press conference that his country would recognize the State of Palestine in September “if Israel does not take substantive steps to end the horrific situation” in the Gaza Strip.

Since the genocide began on October 7, 2023, Israel has been simultaneously committing a starvation crime against the Palestinians of Gaza. On March 2, it tightened its measures by closing all crossings to humanitarian, relief, and medical aid, causing famine to spread and reach “catastrophic” levels.

The US-backed genocide has left more than 210,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and a famine has claimed the lives of many.
