Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his strong condemnation on Wednesday of the treacherous assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh.
Erdogan said in a post on the X platform: “I strongly condemn and denounce the treacherous assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.”
He added: “The assassination of Haniyeh is a plan aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause, the glorious resistance of Gaza, the just struggle of our Palestinian brothers, and undermining their morale and terrorizing them.” He continued: “The goal of assassinating my brother Haniyeh is the same goal of the heinous assassinations that Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi and many political figures in Gaza were subjected to, but as has happened until today, the Zionist barbarism will not be able to achieve its goal of eliminating this cause.”
He continued: “Through a stronger stance from the Islamic world and the alliance of humanity, this terrorism practiced by Israel in the region, especially the injustice and genocide in Gaza, will end, God willing, and peace will prevail in our region and the world.”
He added: “To achieve this, we in Turkey will continue to do everything in our power and with all available means, and we will knock on all doors and support our brothers in Gaza with all our capabilities and strength.”

Erdogan also stressed that Turkey will continue to work to establish a free and independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He concluded his post by saying: “I ask God for mercy and forgiveness for my brother Ismail Haniyeh, who was martyred as a result of this despicable attack, and I offer my condolences to his family and our brothers in Gaza, Palestine and the Islamic world.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Hamas announced the assassination of Haniyeh following a “treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran after he participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president” that took place yesterday, Tuesday.
Iranian state television also reported the killing of Haniyeh in Tehran, explaining that “the investigation into the assassination is ongoing and the results will be announced soon.”
The Israeli army declined to comment on the assassination of Haniyeh, saying: “We do not comment on these reports.”
This was stated by an official in the army spokesman’s unit over the phone on Wednesday morning in response to a question about whether he confirmed that Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli attack in Tehran.
