Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated Republican candidate Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election.
This came in a post on his X account on Wednesday.
Erdogan said: “I congratulate my friend Donald Trump who won the presidential election and was elected again as President of the United States of America.”
He added: “I hope that in this new period (Trump’s term) Turkish-American relations will be strengthened and that regional and global crises and wars, especially the Palestinian issue and the Russian-Ukrainian war, will end, and I believe that more efforts will be made for a more just world.”
Erdogan expressed his hope that the election results would be good for the friendly and allied American people and humanity as a whole.
Earlier on Wednesday, Republican candidate Donald Trump announced that he had achieved a “historic victory” in the US presidential election.
