
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called and congratulated the national football team, which qualified for the UEFA Nations League for the first time with a 3-0 away win over Hungary in the return leg of their 3-1 victory in Istanbul in the UEFA Nations League playoff round.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Youth and Sports Minister Osman Aşkın Bak met with President Erdoğan by phone.
In conversations with coach Vincenzo Montella and Turkish Football Federation President İbrahim Haçosmanoğlu, Erdoğan conveyed his congratulations to the team.
Vincenzo Montella thanked Erdoğan and said, “Mr. President, we have achieved a great victory, and I hope we have made you and Turkey proud. We have beaten a team that has not lost at home for almost three years. Our team has done a tremendous job.”
“We congratulate you, and we are proud of you too,” President Erdoğan said. Later, Erdoğan thanked coach Montella by saying “Grazie” in Italian. Youth and Sports Minister Osman Aşkın Bak also told President Erdoğan: “The entire team sends its greetings. They fought very well in both matches. We congratulate them and thank you for your support.”
