Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan conducted intensive diplomatic activity regarding Syria against the backdrop of the Syrian factions overthrowing the 61-year-old Baath Party regime a few days ago.
According to information, President Erdogan made efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region with the official start of the interim government in Syria.
Erdogan began his diplomatic activity in this regard by holding talks with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on December 10.
In a phone call between them, Erdogan confirmed to Rutte that Turkey has defended Syria’s territorial integrity and stability since the first day of the war that began in 2011.
During the call, Erdogan stressed that Turkey will do its utmost to contribute to building a Syria free of terrorism.
On the same day, President Erdogan discussed with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev the latest developments in Syria and regional and international files.
Erdogan stressed during a phone call with Aliyev that Turkey will continue to support the Syrian people to achieve permanent stability in their country.

In a phone call he later made with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Erdogan stressed that the recent developments in Syria have demonstrated the correctness of Turkey’s humanitarian and compassionate policy.
He pointed out that Turkey continues its position in support of peace, freedom, dialogue and justice in Syria, stressing the importance of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity and achieving its stability.
Erdogan stressed to Meloni that the Israeli aggression appeared in Syria this time and that this position does not contribute to the stability of this Arab country, pointing to the need to cleanse it of terrorist elements.
On the same evening, the Turkish President discussed the recent developments in Syria with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
President Erdogan said during a call with von der Leyen that Turkey will continue to provide strong support to the Syrian people in the coming period to cleanse Syria of terrorist elements, ensure its unity, protect its territorial integrity and ensure the peaceful coexistence of all Syrians with all their ethnic and religious elements.
He pointed out that Turkey has planned the process related to the voluntary return of Syrians to their country, and that the work related to the reconstruction of Syria will accelerate the return.
In a phone call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Turkish president stressed that the new phase is important for the unity of Syrian territory and that Turkey will continue to work to achieve a Syria free of terrorism.
Erdogan added that Turkey’s priority is to create the necessary and sufficient conditions to facilitate the return of Syrian refugees to their country.

On Thursday, Erdogan met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at Esenboğa International Airport in the Turkish capital Ankara.
Following the meeting, the Presidency of the Communications Department of the Turkish Presidency issued a statement recounting the content of the conversation between Erdogan and Blinken.
The statement explained that Erdogan indicated during the meeting that Turkey has supported preserving Syria’s territorial integrity, unity and unitary structure from the beginning.
Erdogan added that Turkey will take measures for its national security against terrorist entities such as the “PKK/PYD/YPG” and “ISIS” active in Syria.
He continued that Turkey, as the only NATO country that has fought “ISIS” face to face, will prevent the terrorist organization “PKK” and its extensions from trying to turn the situation in Syria into an opportunity.
Erdogan stressed that Turkey will never allow any weakness in the war against the terrorist organization ISIS. He stressed the need for the international community to work together to revive and rebuild institutions in Syria.
On December 8, Syrian factions took control of the capital Damascus and other cities before it, with the withdrawal of regime forces from public institutions and streets, thus ending a 61-year era of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family rule.
