Erdogan arrives in Doha to participate in the opening of the World Cup

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in the Qatari capital, Doha, to participate in the opening of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

This participation comes in response to an invitation from Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Turkish President was received at Hamad International Airport by Qatari Minister of Sports and Youth Salah bin Ghanem Al-Ali and the Turkish Ambassador to Doha, Muhammad Mustafa Goksoy.

The Turkish president is accompanied on his visit by his wife, Mrs. Amina, and ministers; Foreign Ministry Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Defense Halusi Akar, Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharram Qasab Oglu, Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Treasury and Finance Noureddin Nabati, Head of the Communication Department in the Presidency Fakhruddin Altun, and Spokesman for the Presidency Ibrahim Kalin.

Qatar will host the tournament between November 20 and December 18, and it will be held for the first time in a country in the Middle East and the Arab world.

The tournament opens this evening at 19:00 (3 GMT) with the Qatar-Ecuador match in Group A competitions.
