The state of Edirne in northwestern Turkey has witnessed the arrest of 8,467 irregular immigrants since the beginning of this year 2024.
In press statements he made on Monday, the governor of Edirne, Yunus Sazar, said that the efforts of the state authorities to combat irregular migration have gained momentum during the recent period.
He added that the authorities are continuing their operations in this regard 24 hours a day.
He explained that these operations resulted in the arrest of 8,467 irregular immigrants since the beginning of this year as they attempted to cross the border illegally.
During last May alone, the number of irregular immigrants who were arrested at the border in the state reached 3,021 people, which is a 7 percent increase compared to the same month of last year, according to the same source.
