Tuba Durgut, the AKP Istanbul deputy, responded harshly to Israel’s accusatory and manipulative approach and said: “The lives of the people of Gaza are no less valuable than all lives, this is no longer a political issue, it is a humanitarian issue, be respectful.”

The 19th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (MEDITERRANEAN PA) was held in Rome, the capital of Italy, from February 19 to 22, 2025.

In the meeting where regional peace, security and parliamentary cooperation were discussed, tensions escalated when the Israeli delegation tried to legitimize the massacre in Gaza.

However, Tuba Durgut, the Vice President of the Women’s Parliamentary Forum and a member of the Turkish delegation to the Palestinian Authority for the Mediterranean, left her mark on the session by making a strongly worded statement against Israel’s accusatory and manipulative approach.

In the meeting of the Political and Security Cooperation Committee within the framework of the General Assembly, the Israeli delegation accused some delegations, especially Türkiye, of not supporting Israel and of hypocrisy.

By showing pictures of a baby who died during the attacks on Gaza and was handed over to Israel as part of a hostage exchange, Tuba Durgut responded harshly after an Israeli parliamentarian accused Turkey of hypocrisy.

Durgut remembered the children who were killed, maimed and starved in Gaza, rejected Israel’s one-sided victim narrative and said the following striking words:

“What about the children who had their limbs amputated in Gaza? What about the women in Gaza? What about the children who starve in Gaza? Aren’t the people of Gaza human beings? We feel sorry for all the children.

The lives of the people of Gaza are no less important than the lives of all the lives. This is no longer a political issue, it is a humanitarian issue. Be respectful.”

After Durgut’s statement, there was a lot of activity in the session, and many members of the delegation, especially the Palestinians, supported Durgut and loudly expressed their criticism of the Israeli delegation.

During the discussion, Durgut showed computer records of Hind Rajab, the girl who was killed by hundreds of bullets in Gaza, revealing Israel’s attacks on children.
