Dr. Rita Issa, a consultant at the World Health Organization, warned of the possibility of new epidemics occurring in the world until the year 2050 due to climate change.
This came in her statements on the sidelines of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change “COP 29” in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.
She said that the climate crisis affects human health in many ways, including epidemics.
She mentioned that high temperatures have serious effects on heart health, pointing to a significant increase in deaths resulting from high temperatures every year.
She pointed out that there is a relationship between the climate crisis and epidemic diseases, and the first thing that stands out in this regard is the change in the areas of spread of disease-carrying organisms.

She stated that climate change can certainly lead to new epidemics, adding that much evidence has emerged that the climate crisis increases the risk of epidemics.
She said that there is a high possibility of new epidemics occurring until 2050 as a result of the climate crisis.
The COP29 conference kicked off in Baku on November 11 and continued until the 22nd of the same month with the participation of heads of state, governments and international organizations.
COP29 is considered one of the most important conferences in the world on climate change and is led by the United Nations, The word “COP” means the Conference of the Parties, i.e. the countries that ratified a treaty concluded in 1992 and called the “United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.”
