AFAD: Consecutive Earthquakes in Balikesir

A 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck at 9:58 p.m., according to information published on the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) website. Its epicenter was in the Sindirgi district of Balikesir.

The earthquake was found to have occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers. Two other earthquakes, one of magnitude 4.2, occurred at 10:00 p.m. and another of magnitude 4.3 at 10:14 p.m.

The 4.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 10:00 p.m. at a depth of 7 kilometers, while the 4.3-magnitude earthquake occurred at 10:14 p.m. at a depth of 7.01 kilometers.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya posted on social media that a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Sindirgi district of Balikesir. The minister noted the following:

“Regarding the earthquake, which was also felt in neighboring provinces, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority and all teams of our relevant institutions immediately began field surveys.

Developments are being monitored. I extend my warmest wishes to our citizens affected by the earthquake. May God protect our country and our people from disasters.”

Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş offered her condolences via social media to those affected by the 4.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Balikesir and was felt in neighboring provinces.

Minister Göktaş added: “Our psychosocial support teams completed their preparations immediately and began providing psychosocial support. May God protect our country from all harm.”
