Last year, Turkish airspace witnessed 2,290,581 flights, with an average of one plane flying over the country every 14 seconds.
According to information from the General Directorate of State Airports Management (DHMİ), recent years have witnessed a significant increase in the number of air passengers in Turkey.
The number of countries with which Turkey has concluded air transport agreements has increased from 81 to 175 countries.
In 2002, there were flights to 60 destinations in 50 countries, and the flight network expanded to include 349 destinations in 132 countries by the end of 2024.
The number of passengers on domestic and international routes also increased from about 34.5 million passengers in 2002 to more than 230.2 million passengers by the end of 2024.

Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Oraloğlu said in a statement that Turkey, due to its geographical and cultural location, is a meeting point for continents, civilizations and transport corridors.
He also pointed out that the number of active airports in Turkey increased from 26 airports in 2002 to 58 airports by the end of 2024, and stressed that Turkey has become one of the countries with the widest aviation network in the world, and that it has achieved international successes in the aviation sector.
Minister Oraloğlu added that the investments made over the past 22 years have made air transport a “popular means of transportation.” He pointed out that Turkey is ranked among 67 countries with a population of 1.5 billion people, and that the value of the gross domestic product of these countries amounts to 51.2 trillion dollars.
