Muğla hosted 3.7 million foreign tourists last year

Last year, 3.7 million foreign tourists visited Muğla, where important tourism centers of the country such as Bodrum, Marmaris and Fethiye are located.

Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık said during his meeting with members of the press working in the province at a hotel in Akyaka district that tourists from many countries come to Muğla, and that guests who are hosted in the best way leave the city happy.

Noting that there is an increase in the number of tourists compared to last year, Akbıyık said: “Muğla continues to be one of the most important tourism centers in our country and the world. In our city, which has attracted great attention from domestic and foreign tourists throughout 2024, not only sea tourism but also sports and culture, “There have also been significant developments in alternative tourism types such as health and gastronomy.”

Akbıyık pointed out that blue cruises, unique bays and ancient cities offer unique experiences to visitors, and pointed out that efforts to strengthen the city’s diving tourism infrastructure are accelerating in order to spread tourism in all four seasons.

Akbıyık stressed that they are making efforts to strengthen Muğla’s position in health tourism and make the city a center of attraction in health tourism, and said:

“2024 was the year in which we reached record numbers in tourism. We started our work before the end of the year to make 2025 more productive in terms of tourism in Muğla, which hosts a total of more than 10 million tourists, 3 million 700 thousand of whom are foreigners. We reached 250 thousand tourists in cruise tourism. Muğla “As a result of our efforts to develop the cultural tourism infrastructure in our country, the number of visitors to museums and monuments in 2024 will exceed one million.”

Akbıyık pointed out that great developments have been made in the field of gastronomy, and pointed out that Muğla is the second city in the Michelin selection after Istanbul with 31 restaurants.

Akbıyık pointed out that Muğla is one of the leading provinces of the country in the agricultural sector, and pointed out that it is at the top of the country’s rankings in many areas from olives to citrus fruits and from greenhouse agriculture to honey production.

Governor Akbıyık also touched upon the forest fires in the city.

Pointing out that there were 381 forest fires and 294 agricultural fires in Muğla last year, Akbıyık said: “An area of ​​220 hectares was damaged by fires. Rehabilitation works in these areas began without wasting time. Last year, nearly 260 thousand people were displaced and saplings were planted in the soil, while an area of ​​285 hectares was planted with trees.”

Akbıyık also provided information about the investments made by the ministries in Muğla and its regions.
