Turkish Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu announced his country’s intention to provide support to Syria in the field of health.

This came during a phone call with his Syrian counterpart Maher al-Sharaa, according to a statement by the Turkish Ministry of Health.

Minister Memişoğlu stated during the call that in the new period in which Syria gained its freedom, the Turkish Ministry of Health will provide support to Syria in the health field.

The statement stated that Memişoğlu confirmed during the call that Turkey will provide support to Syria in rebuilding and rehabilitating the health system and in terms of medical devices and medicines.

On December 8, 2024, Syrian factions took control of the capital Damascus with the withdrawal of regime forces from public institutions and streets, ending 61 years of rule by the bloody Baath Party regime and 53 years of rule by the Assad family.

The following day, the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed al-Sharaa, announced the assignment of Muhammad al-Bashir, the head of the government that had been running Idlib for years, to form a new Syrian government to manage the transitional phase.
