The Turkish Red Crescent opened a mission in the Syrian Red Crescent headquarters in the capital Damascus on Saturday.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Turkish Red Crescent Fatma Meriç Yılmaz, the President of the Syrian Red Crescent Muhammad Hazem, and the Director General of International Affairs and Migration at the Turkish Red Crescent Alper Kücük, along with other officials from both countries.

Following the opening, the two sides signed protocols before Turkish Red Crescent cadres distributed aid to those in need in Damascus.

This is the second diplomatic mission that Turkey has opened in Damascus after opening its embassy on December 14.

On December 8, Syrian factions took control of Damascus with the withdrawal of regime forces, ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family rule.
