The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Presidency (AFAD) announced that it will send a search and rescue team to Sednaya military prison, which was used by the collapsed regime of Bashar al-Assad as a headquarters for torturing opponents.
AFAD explained in a statement that sending the search and rescue team comes after reports of the possibility of detainees inside the secret sections of the prison.
The statement added that the team that will arrive at Sednaya prison will conduct search operations using advanced devices.
The statement pointed out that the team will consist of 80 people, and will begin search operations immediately upon arriving at the prison, which is 30 kilometers away from the center of the capital, Damascus.
On December 8, the Syrian factions took control of the capital, Damascus, and before that, other cities, with the withdrawal of regime forces from public institutions and streets, thus ending the 61-year era of the Baath Party regime and 53 years of the rule of the Assad family.
