The World Halal Summit kicks off in Istanbul

The 10th edition of the World Halal Summit kicked off in Istanbul on Wednesday under the auspices of the Turkish Presidency.

The summit is being held this year at the Istanbul Expo Center under the slogan “The Tenth Successful Year in Halal”.

The summit is being held in cooperation with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and in coordination with the Ministry of Trade and the Turkish Halal Accreditation Institution.

In a speech during the opening, Emre Ateh, Vice President of the World Halal Summit, said that the exhibition hosts more than 500 participants representing 100 countries.

He pointed out that the size of the halal market was about one trillion dollars about 10 years ago and has now exceeded 8 trillion dollars.

He expected that the size of the halal market will reach about 12 trillion dollars within 5 years.

In turn, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), Saad bin Othman Al-Qasabi, indicated that the summit was held with the aim of improving the sustainable economy and living standards.

He expressed his hope that halal products would become more widespread in the fields of industry and trade on a global scale.
