The Turkish Statistical Institute announced on Thursday that tourism revenues in Turkey increased by 3.9 percent in the third quarter of the year compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 23 billion 219 million 751 thousand dollars.
This came in the data of the authority published on tourism statistics for the period from July to September of this year.
According to the data, 14.7 percent of tourism income came from citizens residing abroad who visited the country.
During the third quarter, tourist visits came through individual tours or through groups, and individual expenditures amounted to 15 billion 77 million 957 thousand dollars, and tourist trip expenditures amounted to 8 billion 141 million 794 thousand dollars.
In terms of the purposes of visits, most visits were for the purpose of “travel, entertainment, sports and cultural activities” at 71.6 percent, followed by the purpose of “visiting relatives and friends” at 19.4 percent, and “shopping” at 4 percent.
