Cruise tourism has provided more than 6,000 foreign tourists with the opportunity to visit the Black Sea province of Sinop and learn about the city’s history and culture.

Sinop continues to receive cruise ships after joining the network of large cruise ships at the “Cruise Summit” held in Miami, USA in 2009.

The city, which was visited by 6 cruise ships between May and August of this year, hosted more than 6,000 foreign tourists.

The province’s Director of Culture and Tourism Fatih Gözel said that cruise tourism is important for Sinop, which is the only natural port on the Black Sea.

Gözel stressed that Sinop is a Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman city “and is unique in its history and culture.”

Noting that they are making efforts to develop cruise tourism, he said: “We will continue our activities in the field of culture and tourism with innovations and investments to make Sinop a destination on a global level.”

He added: “We believe that Sinop will become an important stop for cruises in Turkey and around the world, with the support of our ministry and the governor’s policy.”

He mentioned that tourists are interested in the museums in the city, especially the historical Sinop Prison.
