Turkey is moving towards its goal of becoming a central state in the field of natural gas, and in this context, work on transporting Turkmen gas to Turkey via Azerbaijan and then to Europe is nearing completion.

In the first phase, 2 billion cubic meters of gas are expected to be brought to Turkey.

Turkey is taking firm steps towards becoming a hub using the strength of its geopolitical position, and is preparing to host gas transit to Europe.

While there was an energy problem in Europe after the Russian-Ukrainian war, alternative routes were sought and Turkmenistan is one of these alternatives, but Turkey must enter the equation in order to be able to transport Turkmen gas to Europe.

In the first phase, a memorandum of understanding was prepared between Turkey and Turkmenistan, and the agreement included important cooperation in the field of natural gas and hydrocarbons. Then, a cooperation agreement in the field of natural gas was signed.

Finally, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar paid an important two-day visit to Turkmenistan, and the most important item on the meeting’s agenda was natural gas.

In the first phase, it is planned that 2 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas will reach Turkey annually, and then the goal is to increase this capacity.

Selling Turkmen gas to Europe via Turkey will increase Turkey’s energy and will also contribute to achieving the goal of becoming central.
