The European Commission said Monday that it will provide 220 million euros to Turkey to support and improve controls at the country’s eastern borders.
The Commission stated in a statement that the aforementioned amount was approved, and that the total amount provided by the Commission to Turkey during the year 2022 amounted to 1.2 billion euros.
The statement stated that the sums provided to Turkey during the current year were spent on refugees and border control operations.

The statement devoted space to the statements of the Commissioner for Enlargement Affairs and Neighborhood Policy of the European Union, Oliver Varheli, who said that these amounts show the extent of the Union’s cooperation with Turkey regarding the refugee file.
He made it clear that the European Union wanted to continue the readmission agreement concluded with Turkey in March 2016.
Praising the services provided by Ankara to refugees residing within its territory, the European Commissioner pointed out that Turkey is the country that has received the most refugees since 2015.
