Erdogan leaves for Ukraine to meet Zelensky

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday left Esenboga International Airport in the capital, Ankara, heading to Ukraine on an official visit.

The Turkish president was seen off at the airport by his deputy, Fuat Oktay, the deputy governor of Ankara, Abdullah Dolek, and officials.

Erdogan is accompanied by Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez, Defense Hulusi Akar, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Vahid Kirceci and Trade Mehmet Muş.

He is also accompanied by intelligence chief Hakan Fidan, head of the Communications Department Fahrettin Altun, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, head of defense industries Ismail Demir, AKP spokesman Omer Celik, and general manager of Baykar Defense Industries Khaluk Bayraktar.

It is expected that President Erdogan will meet his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in the western city of Lviv, the first direct meeting between the two sides since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war last February.

He will also hold a tripartite summit with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in the presence of his Ukrainian counterpart.
