Ankara: The sovereignty of Iraq is violated by terrorist organizations

Chargé d’Affairs at the Permanent Representation of Turkey to the United Nations, Ongo Kecchili, stressed that Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are violated by terrorist organizations, not Turkey.

This came in a session of the UN Security Council at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday, commenting on the attack that took place last week and targeted a tourist resort in the Dohuk Governorate in northern Iraq.

The Turkish official stressed that his country has always been keen on its strong support for Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He pointed out that Ankara contacted Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government in northern Iraq immediately after the attack and expressed its readiness to take steps to reveal the truth.

He added that “Turkey always maintains its strong support for Iraq’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, stability and prosperity.”

He continued, “Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are violated by terrorist organizations, not Turkey.”

On July 20, a terrorist attack occurred in Dohuk Governorate, northern Iraq, killing 8 civilians and wounding 23 others.

And last Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that his country is impossible to carry out a hostile act against its Iraqi brothers, indicating that the Dohuk attack showed the true face of the terrorist PKK organization.

“We saw again the true face of the PKK terrorist organization,” he said in an interview with the state-run TRT channel, noting that the attack resembled the usual terrorist acts carried out by the “PKK” and its arms in Syria, “YPG” and “BYD”. “.

President Erdogan made it clear that his country called on the United States, Russia and the brothers in Iraq not to fall into the trap of holding Turkey responsible.
