The Turkish authorities have arrested 223 illegal immigrants on a boat off the Aydincik district in the southern state of Mersin.

This came during a tracking operation carried out by the Mediterranean Coast Guard Command of a boat after its departure from Marmaris district in Mugla state.
During the inspection of the boat, which was on its way to Italy, the teams seized 223 illegal immigrants, 204 of whom are Syrians and 19 Palestinians.

The security teams also arrested 3 Syrian suspects on charges of human smuggling.
