The European Union urged the parties to the conflict in Yemen on Tuesday to reach a truce during the upcoming Ramadan month.

The European Union mission to Yemen said in a tweet that “reaching a truce on the occasion of Ramadan would be very welcome to alleviate the suffering of the people in Yemen.”
“The European Union encourages all parties to engage in UN-led peace efforts to reach a lasting political settlement to the conflict,” she added, without further details.
And on Sunday, the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced that he had discussed with the Houthis and Omani officials the implementation of a truce in the country during the holy month of Ramadan (begins in early April).
No official position has been issued so far from the Yemeni government or the Houthis on the truce calls.

Yemen has been witnessing for nearly 7 years a continuous war between the forces loyal to the government backed by an Arab military coalition led by the neighboring Saudi Arabia.
And the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have controlled several governorates, including the capital, Sanaa, since September 2014.
