Turkey’s exports through the Khabour crossing amount to $6.7 billion

Turkish exports through the Khabour border crossing with northern Iraq amounted to $6.7 billion during the ten months of this year 2021, according to a government official.

Wali Sharnak (southeast) Ali Hamza Pahlwan said on Monday that the country’s goal this year is for exports through the crossing to reach $10 billion.

He added that the Khabour border crossing is the most important Turkish gateway to the Middle East, stressing that the volume of international trade through it has increased despite the Corona pandemic.

He pointed out that construction materials and foodstuff products constitute 70 percent of the crossing’s total exports.

He pointed out that the average number of vehicles crossing the gate increased from about 1,300 to 1,900 during the year 2021.

In turn, a member of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Anatolian Exporters Union, Hussein Tashin, said that Turkish exports through the Khabour crossing continued uninterrupted during the Corona pandemic.

Tashkin stressed the need to increase the industrial zones in eastern Anatolia, raise the percentage of exports to 50 percent, and reduce costs for traders and investors.
