$497 Million International Investment Volume in Turkey in August

The International Investors Association’s bulletin stated that $497 million of international direct investment came to Turkey in August.

According to current official data, the total amount of international direct investment (UDY) coming to Turkey during the eight months of the year amounted to $6.41 billion, and while a 2 percent decrease was recorded in this period compared to the same period in 2023, the total value of foreign direct investment inflows to Turkey since 2002 has approached $270 billion.

While the inflow of foreign direct investment to Turkey amounted to $497 million in August of this year, $283 million of this investment was in the form of venture capital.

Of the total foreign direct investment in August, $201 million was recorded through real estate sales to foreign citizens and $35 million through debt instruments, and the downward effect of divestments of $22 million in the same month was noteworthy.

In the $283 million venture capital inflows in August, wholesale and retail trade accounted for 16 percent with an investment inflow of $46 million.

The food, beverage and tobacco products industry accounted for 16 percent of venture capital inflows in the same period, performing higher than the previous cumulative performance.

The EU countries, which had a 59 percent share in the total period 2002-2023, had a 54 percent share in August. In the same month, non-EU European countries became the second region that invested the most in Turkey with a share of 16 percent.

In August 2024, Germany had the largest share with 22 percent, followed by Switzerland with 11 percent, the Netherlands with 10 percent, the United States with 9 percent, France with 9 percent, Luxembourg with 8 percent, and Taiwan with 7 percent.

When evaluating the total 8 months of the year, the three countries that invested the most in Turkey are the Netherlands with a share of 20 percent, Germany with a share of 15 percent and the United States of America with a share of 13 percent.
