With $207.5 billion, Turkey’s exports hit a record high

Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Muş said that his country’s exports hit a record high of $207.5 billion on an annual basis last August.

Muş explained in a press conference on Thursday that Turkish exports rose last August by 52 percent compared to the same month of 2020.

It achieved $18.9 billion monthly and $207.5 billion on an annual basis. He added that the strong performance of exports during 2021 will continue to reach $210 billion at the end of the year.

He pointed out that the strong momentum in exports exceeded the performance before the Corona pandemic, as it rose 43 percent in August 2021 compared to the same month in 2019.

Exports also increased during January-August 2021 by 20 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

As for imports, they rose 23.8 percent in August 2021 compared to the same month in 2019, reaching $23.2 billion.

On Wednesday, the Turkish Statistical Office revealed that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 21.7 percent year on year during the second quarter of this year.

This percentage is the highest among the recorded and announced figures since 1999, according to official data.
